About the Mutual

A mutual is an organisation that is owned and run by its members and for their joint benefit. There are no outside shareholders forcing it to do what it doesn’t want to do. Every member has an equal say.

The Mutual unites thousands of local communities and millions of individuals under one people-powered bargaining banner. Put simply, the more of us who join, the more we can barter, haggle, influence, solve and change.

Anyone in the UK over the age of 16 can become a member and shareholder of The Mutual for a tenner a year – equivalent to less than 84p a month – which includes free public liability and personal accident cover for volunteering as well as access to a free legal advice helpline and the ability to access other member benefits.
