Are there areas in your community that are neglected or abandoned? Is there a wall covered in graffiti locally? Why not get some friends together and organise a Big Tidy Up!
The Big Tidy Up is a national campaign by Keep Britain Tidy to encourage communities to take matters into their own hands and change the community they live in.
It’s a great activity you can undertake with your neighbours or friends. You can find some footage of a Big Tidy Up below:
You can register for a Big Tidy Up here.
There is also a lot of useful information you may want to consider when organising a tidy up which can be found here. This includes how to promote and plan it.
Once you’re registered they’ll send you a start up pack which includes tabards, refuse sacks, a guide and posters.
You may also want to get litter picks, skip hire, heavy duty gloves, antibacterial wipes and a First Aid Kit. All of these will be available soon at a discounted price when you sign up to the mutual here.
Once you’ve completed your Big Tidy Up why not look at some of the other ideas we have listed to see what can be done with the land you have just cleared up. You could for example, fundraise to build a new things in your community or convert a patch of land into a community garden!
Let’s Colour is a campaign by Dulux and Groundwork to use colour to transform grey or neglected walls, rooms and buildings with a lick of a paint or a community mural.
You can join the movement in the UK and nominate your community to benefit from a Let’s Colour project. You could receive donated paint and practical support from Groundwork.
