Since July 2012, we have been working in partnership with HEINEKEN, the UK’s biggest cider & beer company, who enlisted our support to help develop their long-standing commitment to community investment. Our community work is now focused on three very different areas where HEINEKEN is a major employer: Moss Side and Hulme in Manchester, Tadcaster in Yorkshire and Ledbury in Herefordshire.
In November 2012, we launched a community workshop in each area. These brought together community activists, local organisations and many people who have had very little involvement in their community and whose voice is rarely heard. We discussed local needs, mapped all local assets and identified project ideas that could create lasting change. We are now working with local citizens, HEINEKEN colleagues and organisations in the area to support these community-led projects: from youth projects such as career advice, drop-in centres and skate parks; to befriending services for older people, the strengthening of community centres and the use of sport and theatre to tackle violence, boredom and to raise self-esteem.
